When it’s hot outside and you’re looking for an easy way to hard-boil eggs without turning on your stove, try using a crockpot or slow cooker instead. It’s a simple way to make hard-boiled eggs without overheating your kitchen during the warmer months of the year.
Let me just decisively say right now, that as much I am embracing the many creative uses you can find for a crockpot thanks to Crockpot Monday, I feel like this recipe is for lazy people.
Maybe you need me to define what I mean by lazy.
Lazy is not putting a trash bag back into the trashcan after you take out the trash. No, you do not get brownie points for taking the trash out, because it is something that needs to be done on a regular basis. Quit making it seem like it’s equivalent to having a colonoscopy, and remember to please put a new trash bag back into the empty trashcan for Heaven’s sake.
Lazy is parking in a handicapped space when you are fully capable of walking the ten feet required to enter the convenience store to buy your daily allotment of lottery tickets, beer, and cigarettes. If you are not handicapped in any way at all, walk your lazy ass from the next available parking space three feet away, please.
Lazy is not walking your buggy back inside the market or returning it to the proper buggy collection area. For those of you not familiar with my Western Maryland lingo, a buggy is a shopping cart, and a market is a grocery store. No matter which words you use to describe either of those things, there is no excuse for leaving said buggy outside in the market parking lot where it does not belong. My VW, Harry Connick, gets very irate when a buggy comes out of nowhere and tries to start something for no reason at all.
So, do you belong to the horde of lazy folk?
If your answer was yes, then please know that I am judging you just the littlest bit. However, if using a crockpot to hard-boil eggs is what it takes for you to get deviled eggs onto your table for Easter, then I’m willing to forgive you.
If your answer was no, I truly do want to be your bestie. I myself will be using my preferred How To Hard-Boil Eggs method for Easter because that’s the type of person I am. No matter how lazy I’m feeling, I put a trash bag back into the empty trashcan, I never park in handicapped parking spaces, and I always walk my buggy back into the market.
I leave it up to you to decide which hard-boiled egg technique you prefer, and how lazy you choose to be. Below I’ve shared a list of several deviled egg recipes you can use for Easter, and on Monday I plan to show you a recipe for how to use these Crockpot Hard-Boiled Eggs. However, if you’re truly feeling the need to be a lazy slacker, you can always eat them just as they are.
Ingredients:
- 6 to 12 Eggs
- Water
- 1 Teaspoon Sea Salt
- 2 Tablespoons Vinegar
Directions:
- Gently place the eggs in a crockpot and cover with water by 1/2-inch.
- Add the salt and vinegar to the crockpot.
- Cover and cook on high heat for 2 1/2 hours.
- Remove the eggs and place them in an ice bath for 30 minutes.
- Peel the eggs under cold running water, pat dry, and then eat as is or use for deviled eggs or egg salad.
Suggestions:
- Set every timer in your house if there is any chance you will not be near the crockpot at the end of the 2 1/2 hour cooking time. If the eggs cook too long they will not only overcook but also develop brown spots where they connect with the crockpot.
- The salt in this recipe is to flavor the eggs, and the vinegar is to help soften the eggshells.
- You can use either white vinegar or apple cider vinegar in this recipe.
- Make sure that the eggs are in a single layer inside of the crockpot. No stacking allowed.
