Why hello there first deviled egg recipe of the year. You sure do look lovely there all gussied up, showing off your shimmering dollop of jalapeno jelly and delicious mound of drool-worthy candied bacon. I wonder what this year has in store for you.
Perhaps this is the year you’ll venture to Europe and fulfill a life-long dream of traveling abroad, make homemade Amish-inspired pretzels that literally drip butter down your chin, go see more movies, try out more unique restaurants instead of going to the same ones over and over again because they just happen to be nearby, or spend a day finally picking out fixtures for the bathroom in your house that seems like it will never really be anything more than an empty room ever again.
Maybe this is the year you finally make it back to Maine and Vermont to eat the most amazing lobster, chowder, beer, and donuts that have ever crossed your lips, or down to Florida to see your friend you’ve been missing something fierce, or even all the way across the country to Denver to be silly and stupid with one of your besties who has been gone from Virginia way too long for your liking.
This may be the year you say to hell with being safe and finally tell your job thanks but no thanks, tell the most annoying people in your life just what you really think of them, worry a little more about what really matters instead of all the teeny tiny things that make everyday life a bit tedious, surround yourself with the things you truly love instead of what just floats your way, learn to relax and take a breath instead of being so uptight and stressed out, or even lay in bed a few days out of the month reading all day because you just don’t feel like changing out of your pajamas or venturing out into the world.
This is your year my sweet lil’ deviled eggs. Dream big. Get out there and make it yours.
Ingredients:
Basic Candied Bacon:
- 1 Pound Thick-Cut Bacon
- 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
- 2 Tablespoons Pure Maple Syrup
- 1 Tablespoon Dijon Mustard
- 1/4 Teaspoon Ground Chipotle
Deviled Eggs:
- 12 Hard-Boiled Eggs
- 1/3 Cup Mayonnaise
- 2 Tablespoon Jalapeño Jelly (Additional for Garnish)
- 1/4 Teaspoon Kosher Salt
- 3 to 4 Slices of Basic Candied Bacon, Cut into Small Pieces
Directions:
Basic Candied Bacon:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Line a baking sheet with tin foil, and then place a baking rack on top.
- Lay the bacon slices on top of the baking rack.
- Mix the brown sugar, maple syrup, mustard, and ground chipotle in a bowl until all lumps are gone.
- Brush the mixture on top of the bacon slices.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
- Allow to rest for 5 minutes, before removing from the baking rack.
Deviled Eggs:
- Cut each hard-boiled egg in half lengthwise and then place the egg yolks into a food processor.
- Add the mayonnaise, jelly, and salt to the food processor and puree until smooth.
- Fill a large plastic bag with the filling, snip off the corner, and then pipe the filling into the well of each empty egg half.
- Place a few tablespoons of jelly into a small plastic bag, snip off the corner, and then pipe a dollop of jelly onto the top of each egg.
- Press the small cut pieces of candied bacon into the filling of each deviled egg.

Improvements:
- If you aren’t someone who likes a lot of spice, replace 1-tablespoon of the jalapeno jelly with honey.
- Add finely chopped jalapenos to the filling or as a garnish, if you are someone who likes a little extra spice.
