Coconut Shortbread S’mores with Dark Chocolate and a Touch of Sea Salt

Coconut Shortbread S'mores with Dark Chocolate and a Touch of Sea Salt | Faith, Hope, Love, and Luck Survive Despite a Whiskered Accomplice

Thursday’s post got me all excited to play with fire. I made a special trip to the market to buy everything I would need to make my own version of the perfect gourmet s’more. I’m pretty sure anyone watching my items rolling down the conveyer belt judged me as a complete fatty fatty 2 X 4, because there is just no way to explain away a bag of marshmallows, a dark chocolate bar, a bag of cookies, and a can of whipped cream. (The whipped cream is for my hot chocolate, which I occasionally have instead of breakfast. I somehow sense even more judgment after that last sentence.) Perhaps next time I’ll throw a bag of spinach up there with everything else, so that I can pretend that I plan on making something besides dessert, but as for yesterday, the only thing I wanted was melted marshmallow sticking to my fingers, and managing to not catch myself on fire while using the gas grill.

Directions:

  1. Give a kid a sharp pointy stick and tell them to go play with fire. That should work out well.
  2. Toast 4 to 5 marshmallows, before you finally succeed in having one that doesn’t go up in flames or end up in the fire.
  3. Place 1 square of chocolate on the flat side of 1 cookie, top it with a perfectly golden marshmallow, and then top with an additional cookie, flat side facing down.
  4. Avoid all animals, small children, and significant others. Do not share. If they want one, they’ll have to make their own.

Suggestions:

  • You can use a grill, fire pit, or gas stove to toast marshmallows, just don’t forget this phrase in case of emergency; “Stop, Drop, and Roll!”

Improvements:

  • Dare I say add 2 squares of chocolate to each s’more. Is that going too far?
  • Use any store-bought cookies, along with any brand or type of chocolate bar, to make your own gourmet s’more.
  • Bacon?
