This roasted cranberry sauce gets its over-the-top flavor from roasting the cranberries with maple syrup, bourbon, and a touch of brown sugar. Simply stir everything together and then place the mixture in a preheated oven. In less than an hour, you’ll have some of the most amazing cranberry sauce you’ve ever tasted. It’s the perfect Thanksgiving recipe.
There are two foods in this world that I find almost impossible to eat without cranberry sauce. And yes, both of those foods are served at the Thanksgiving dinner table. Turkey and stuffing. On their own, they just aren’t complete. They’re lonely, sad, dejected, and just kind of blah. However, with cranberry sauce, they’re just oh my goodness gracious I want to lick my plate yummy good.
Now, imagine turkey and stuffing with this cranberry sauce. You might have to hold me back. It’s quite possible that I might take someone out at the knees while attempting to run, jump, leap, dive, or perhaps even skip to the dinner table. I cannot be held responsible for my actions when it comes to this cranberry sauce. So, don’t y’all dare even think of judging me when y’all catch me licking the serving spoon.
Ingredients:
- 2 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter, Melted
- 1/2 Cup Pure Maple Syrup
- 1/4 Cup Bourbon
- 1/4 Cup Light Brown Sugar, Packed
- 1/2 Teaspoon Kosher Salt
- 4 Cups Frozen or Fresh Cranberries
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- In a 9×13 glass baking dish, stir together the melted butter, maple syrup, bourbon, brown sugar, and salt.
- Add the cranberries to the baking dish and then stir to combine.
- Bake the cranberry mixture for 45 to 50 minutes, or until perfectly roasted.
- After taking the baking dish out of the oven, use the tines of a fork to mash the cranberries together.
- Allow the cranberry sauce to cool and then refrigerate it until serving.
Suggestions:
- Using a 9×13 baking dish allows the cranberries to roast evenly. Try not to use a smaller baking dish.
- To save time and dirtying extra dishes, place the butter in the baking dish while the oven is preheating to melt it.
- You can use fresh or frozen cranberries in this recipe, however, fresh cranberries will take a little less time to cook.
- The cranberries are done when they are perfectly roasted and easy to smash with the tines of a fork.
- Remember that the cranberry sauce will thicken up a bit after it cools.
Improvements:
- Add a 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla to the cranberry sauce after it has finished baking.
- Garnish the cranberry sauce with fresh orange zest right before serving.
- Replace the bourbon in this recipe with whiskey or orange liqueur.
