Most store-bought seasoning mixes and rubs contain high amounts of salt and are low on actual real natural flavor. Why settle for an overly-salty seasoning mix with unnatural ingredients, when it’s so easy to make your own at home? Bob’s pork rib seasoning rub contains ten simple spices and seasonings that can be found in most household kitchens. If you can measure ingredients and stir them until well combined, it’s as simple as that. So, start measuring and mixing, because it’s time to make some pork ribs.
In our house, we’re always excited to see Labor Day arrive. It means that it’s finally time to take down all of the red, white, and blue decorations in our yard and start putting up Halloween ones in their place. This year, we’re even more excited because the Halloween theme is Pirates. In our yard this year, you will find a pirate ship, a whimsical skeleton cat pirate dingy, an overly-large wooden boat dock, several new animated pirate skeletons, and so much more. I’m not sure why we both went so pirate crazy this year. But, you know what? Neither of us is complaining about the other’s enthusiasm. Instead, we’re totally embracing it. And in between designing a creepy tower or seafood, crafting some handmade concrete skeleton fish stepping stones, and digging through the mass amounts of Halloween storage in our garage, we’re also taking time out to smoke a few things on the Big Green Egg. Because, after all, man and woman cannot live on Halloween alone. Pork ribs and Oktoberfest beer are also required.

Directions:

Suggestions:
- This seasoning rub will be enough to liberally coat two racks of ribs.
- B.O.B. Bob prefers to rub a little bit of Dijon mustard onto his ribs before liberally seasoning them with the seasoning rub. In his opinion, the mustard helps the seasoning adhere better and it also gives the ribs more flavor.
- You’ll find that most of the ingredients you will need to make this seasoning rub are readily available in your kitchen. Celery seed may be one of the few exceptions. If you don’t have celery seed on hand, replace half of the ground sea salt in this recipe with celery salt.
- If this seasoning clumps after being stored, use a fork to break it up or pulse it in a food processor until loose again.
- You may have noticed that I have not included directions on how to actually smoke, grill, or bake the pork ribs in this recipe. I find that each cook, chef, or grill-master has their own method which they prefer best. If you need directions on how to make pork ribs, I suggest looking online, where you’re sure to find a plethora of useful information.
