I grew up in a household where making your own Halloween costume was the norm. Each year, we had to think long and hard about what we really wanted to be, and then figure out how to make it happen. I’ve been a tractor, a Coke bottle, a clown, a prize pig, a princess, and so many other great characters. Half the fun of dressing up is the effort involved in creating the actual costume. Now I know many of y’all would rather just walk into a store, pick out a costume, and walk right back out of that store as fast as possible, but today I thought I’d share a few costumes that I think are pretty special. Whether you buy them online or recreate them in your own unique way is up to you. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I just think it would be a shame for any of y’all to be lacking in the costume department.
Grease Beauty School Dropout Women’s Costume
Throw some curlers in your hair and make a salon cape out of a trash bag. You can even make little snaps out of silver colored paper or tin foil to adhere to the cape.
Sexy Pinata Costume
Tissue paper is your friend. Or if you really want to get wild, buy a bunch of cheap felt and break out the hot glue gun.
Women’s 80’s Workout Girl
A swim suit, some tights, knee socks with the feet cut out, and an old sweatshirt are all that is required for this costume. Dig around in the back of your bathroom drawer and see if you can’t find that hair crimper while you’re at it.
Back to the Future Doc Brown Costume
You can buy a white painter’s coverall at almost any hardware store. Draw the hazard designs on with permanent colored markers and add a pair of rubber kitchen gloves to finish off the ensemble. Don’t forget to tease out your hair while you’re at it.
Workout Video Star Costume
What man wouldn’t want to wear this outfit? Combine a striped pair of boxers with a tank top for a last minute costume. Write your favorite work out slogan on the tank for good measure. I personally love, “Feel the Burn!”
Ace Ventura Tutu Costume
If you’re a dad, then I guarantee you have a pink tutu laying around your house somewhere. Get out the hair gel, throw on that skirt, and start making weird faces to make everyone around you laugh uncontrollably.
The Costumes below are purely for my own entertainment. I want to dress my sweet Brenna up in every single one of them. Yes, she would definitely not be happy about it, and yes, I would be rolling around the floor unable to control my laughter. I think every pet needs a little bit of humiliation in their life at some point.
Triceratops Dog Costume
Bantha Pet Costume
Get creative with your Halloween costume this year, or just shop online for a funny costume. It’s really up to you. Just make sure you have a costume on, because if you don’t, I refuse to give you any of the good candy.
