Sometimes you need to put yourself in a time-out; there are just those moments when any contact with another human being or creature, no matter how much you adore them, is just not going to end well. Yesterday was one of those days for me. My foul mood started at work, where instead of throwing things, screaming, or simply singing the most wonderful version of “Take This Job and Shove It” ever heard, I chose to get up, walk out, and give myself a mini time-out. It was a great plan, but sadly, it didn’t help whatsoever. I still had to eventually return to my job, work a long day, and finally leave late at night even more pissed off than ever.

At work, I tried music therapy, I tried soap opera therapy; Hell, I even tried Hallmark Movie therapy which is almost always sure to kill any blues that ail me.

I cried on the way home. That didn’t help. It just gave me the feeling of being highly deranged and had every other driver glancing over at me as if I were a lunatic.

I arrived home, thinking surely my day would take a turn for the better and that everything would be okey dokey. Nope, it just got worse. Brenna was in a dreadful mood as well, and for once I think she realized that she better get the f*%k out of Mommy’s way before she ended up in her own little time-out. I even got to a point where I walked away from B.O.B. Bob because one more moment in his presence would have most likely led to me throwing something at his big ol’ head, or me shouting something nasty at him.

I tried having a drink. That didn’t work. It just made me crave a gigantic glass of water instead.

I gave vacuuming a whirl, which always seemed to calm me. Not this time.

When all else failed, I attempted ironing, my other favorite pastime. Imagine the most aggressive ironing ever. That’s pretty much what happened.

I now have a song stuck in my head that I can’t remember all of the words to, know that I’m getting really tired of the same storyline on General Hospital, realize that there are some Hallmark movies that even I haven’t seen, feel like I’ve cried all of the salt out of my body for no reason, have had to say I’m sorry to the cat for being such a b*%#h, keep on avoiding B.O.B. Bob for fear of ripping his ears off accidentally, have come to the decision that it’s time to buy another large bottle of vodka, am enjoying a wonderfully clean office carpet free of cat litter, and am looking forward to having freshly pressed jeans for the weekend if the weather gets cold.

Some days time-outs don’t help, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t get a lot accomplished.

Suggestions:

  • Serve with Dry Rubbed BBQ Ribs.
  • Use this sauce on any grilled meat.
  • Experiment with different brands and flavors of ketchup. This is not 1980 anymore folks. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Check out the ketchup varieties that are now available at your local market.
  • If you have leftover sauce, you can always freeze it for up to a month in a glass airtight container.
  • Do not store this sauce in a plastic container. It will stain the plastic.
