It’s no secret that I have quite the obsession with pretzels, and that they’re pretty much a major food group for me, seeing as how they’re such a large part of my diet. So much so, that I mentioned recently to a group of friends, that when it comes to our planned vacation to Aruba with them this year, there was no real need to worry about food for me throughout the day, as long as I could get my hands on a bag of pretzels, a jar of mustard, and a block or two of some fancy cheese. Fingers crossed, y’all, fingers crossed. Having only had my feet touch the dock in Aruba many, many years ago to disembark from a cruise for a snorkeling expedition, I have zero idea what to expect when it comes to food on the island. And honestly, I’m alright with that. It’s nice to just go with the flow and be surprised sometimes. That being said, it’s also quite possible that I’ll be stashing at least one small bag of pretzels in my carry-on bag to ensure that I get my fix throughout our stay.

Suggestions:

  • For this recipe, I used a Lindt Excellence A Touch of Sea Salt 3.5-oz. dark chocolate candy bar. You can use whichever candy bar or chocolate you prefer. If using a non-salted variety, add an additional 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt to the brownie batter.
  • Make sure not to overmix the brownie batter after adding the flour and unsweetened cocoa.
  • I used Snyder’s of Hanover Snaps Pretzels for this recipe. Thin or small prezels work best for crushing.
  • Allow the brownies to cool for at least 20 minutes before removing them from the pan. Grab the edges of the parchment paper, lift up, and remove the brownies from the baking dish. Then, you can easily cut the brownies into small squares.
  • If using a metal pan or ceramic baking dish instead of a glass baking dish, you may need to adjust the baking time. I suggest you check the brownies after 25 minutes of baking. The brownies are done when they start to pull away from the edges of the pan, and cracks begin to form on top.
