Thanksgiving comes but once a year, yet somehow many of us still get tired of the same ol’ foods that are served on the big turkey day year, after year, after year in “Groundhog Day” repeat-mode. I mean, can you honestly say that green bean casserole tastes the same as it did when you were a kid? I totally looked forward to it way back then, but I can barely manage to tolerate it now, and that includes many fancied-up versions that I’ve tasted over the years. This time around, I want to think outside of the box. If I were to serve Thanksgiving dinner to my loved ones, here are a few of the recipes I would consider to switch things up a bit and get out of the same ol’ gobble, gobble, gobble rut.
1
Chipotle White Ale Cranberry Sauce from The Beeroness
Why not add a little beer to your cranberry sauce?
2
Pumpkin Biscuits from Recipe Girl
Biscuits win out over rolls any day of the year, especially when slathered in honey.
3
Roasted Chicken with Crispy Skin and a Mustard Dipping Sauce from The Crepes of Wrath
Sometimes there just aren’t enough guests to warrant a twenty-pound turkey.
4
Pumpkin Espresso Bundt Cake from Pastry Affair
Ditch the pumpkin pie and serve this simple pumpkin Bundt cake alongside instead.
5
Cider Bourbon Fizz from Southern FATTY
Wine is boring, beer is every day, but cocktails are special.
6
Slow Cooker Garlic Herb Mushrooms from Damn Delicious
Mushrooms should become the new Thanksgiving side of choice. Say goodbye to green beans and corn.
7
Brown Butter Herb Garlic Knots from How Sweet It Is
Brown butter, garlic, bread…what’s not to love?
8
Pan-Seared Brussels Sprouts with Cranberries and Pecans from Rachel Schultz
Oh yes! I’m loving everything about this vegetable dish, especially the gorgonzola.
9
Cinnamon Honey Butter from The Food Charlatan
This will be a much-loved and appreciated gift to give to your Thanksgiving hostess.
10
Pumpkin Layer Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting from My Name Is Yeh
Once again, a person can only eat so much pumpkin and apple pie before they get totally bored.
11
Butternut Squash and Spinach Lasagna from Julia’s Album
The perfect casserole for those vegetarian guests that you have no idea what to serve.
12
Turkey Tenderloins with Madeira Gravy from MyRecipes.com
A quick way to have your turkey with much less work involved.
