For Christmas, some of our friends gifted B.O.B. Bob and me an assorted dried fruit basket from Nuts.com. That poor lil’ fruit basket sat on our counter for almost a month before we finally ripped it open, but once we did, we were totally in love. So much so, that for Valentine’s Day, I decided to order some of their special treats to surprise B.O.B. Bob. And, of course, as is most often the case when I’m ordering something for someone as a gift, I picked out a few things for myself as well. In addition to pitted dates and whole dried strawberries, I also purchased a big ol’ bag of dry-packed sun-dried tomatoes. Y’all, I’m not lying when I say that these lil’ sun-dried tomatoes are utterly addictive. They’re better than any store-bought version I’ve ever tried before and they were fairly comparable in price to ones that I’ve purchased before at our local high-dollar grocery store. So, if you’re in a rut with your snacks, just want to try something new, or are just plain ol’ fed up with paying exorbitant prices for certain items at your local market, I highly recommend checking out their site. P.S. Don’t forget to add some sun-dried tomatoes to your cart because you’re definitely going to want to try this homemade Italian-seasoned dip. It would make an absolutely amazing addition to an at-home Valentine’s Day snacky celebration.

Suggestions:

  • Use dry-packed sun-dried tomatoes for this recipe, not oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes. Dry-packed tomatoes typically come in resealable plastic bags, that can often be found in the produce or Italian section of your local market. You can also find them online. The oil-packed variety will change the texture and appearance of this dip.
  • A lot of store-bought seasoning blends contain salt. If you use an Italian herb seasoning mix that contains salt, you may need to adjust the amount of salt used in this recipe. I suggest using this Homemade Italian Herb Seasoning Mix (No-Salt) to make this recipe.
  • I did not add a lot of salt to this recipe because the crackers and pretzels I served it with were already quite salty. You can always add more salt to the dip if that’s your preference.
  • This dip will not appear thick when you first make it, however, it will thicken after being refrigerated. The sun-dried tomatoes and seasonings will absorb some of the moisture.

Improvements:

  • Fold freshly grated parmesan cheese into this dip or garnish this dip with shaved parmesan cheese.
  • Use this dip as a sandwich spread for your favorite wraps and/or subs.
  • Replace the dried basil with fresh finely chopped basil. You will need to use at least 2 teaspoons, however, you can add as much as you like. Make sure to use a little bit of it as a garnish.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce.
  • Serve this dip with these Baked Parmesan Italian Seasoned Crackers.
